I’m Martin Wootton, a portrait specialist based in Hitchin. Portrait photography for me isn’t just about faces or posed glamour shots (though if that’s your thing, that’s fine too!). My aim is to capture personality — the little, honest moments that reveal who someone really is. I work in a relaxed, reportage style that keeps sessions natural and comfortable, so even if you’re not used to having your photo taken, the best, most genuine images often come easily. My approach is simple: I start by talking with you about who you are and what you want from the shoot. Whether we’re working in a studio-style setting or out on location around Hitchin, I look for ways to include your interests and atmosphere so the portraits feel personal and true. I’ll use gentle direction where needed, but I favour candid moments and subtle interaction over stiff posing. When extra lighting or a more formal set-up is required, I’ll bring the kit and the time needed to create clean, focused portraits. Working as a photographer for the local paper has taught me to see stories in single frames — and that storytelling eye is what I bring to every portrait session. My goal is to produce images that are timeless and usable: for family albums, personal projects, portfolios or simply to mark a moment in life.
