I’m Bernadette Grueber and portrait photography is at the heart of what I do. Based in Littlehampton, West Sussex, I specialise in creating professional portraits and headshots that feel genuine rather than posed. My approach draws on years of working with individuals, families and the natural world — I look for the small, telling moments that reveal personality and purpose, whether I’m photographing a confident LinkedIn headshot or a softer lifestyle portrait. What sets my portrait work apart is a focus on atmosphere and authenticity. I prefer to use natural light and real locations across Sussex — beaches, woods, parkland or the quiet corners of your favourite place — because these settings allow people to relax and behave as themselves. That relaxed atmosphere makes for portraits with warmth and honesty: subtle expressions, ephemeral glances and those little gestures that say more than a forced smile. Before every session I like to get to know you. We’ll talk about what you want the images to say — professional and polished, relaxed and creative, or somewhere in between — and I’ll tailor the shoot to match. I guide gently rather than direct, helping even camera-shy clients feel at ease. The result is a series of images that tell your story and reflect your individuality, ready to use for business profiles, portfolios or personal keepsakes. Although portraiture is my primary focus, my practice is informed by a love of nature and family photography. That background influences the way I compose, light and pace a session, especially when portraits are made outdoors. I also offer family and nature-focused sessions around Brighton & Hove and throughout East and West Sussex, and occasional maternity shoots on request.
